Kids 4 Kids Initiative

The Background

The GNHCT was founded by Annette Montague-Thomas back in 2000.  Annette is a highly experienced and qualified medical herbalist with in excess of 25 years experience in treating people around the world affected by a number of medical issues including HIV & AIDS.

Annette’s passion for Africa has evolved and in 2001 her first Natural and Holistic health care clinic opened its doors to adults and children based in and around the Orange Settlement approximately 45mins drive outside Johannesburg.

The patients using the clinic have grown substantially to approximately 6,000 people each year with a variety of medical issues being treated including HIV & AIDS. All of the treatment is given for FREE. During the early stages of this process the charity took an unexpected turn when Annette was asked to home 7 orphaned children whose parents had died after suffering the effects of AIDS.  Just 5 years on from this time with the dedication, kindness and support of other families and the guidance and expertise of Annette nearly 7,000 orphans have been housed in approved, licensed and registered homes under the care and in the surroundings of loving families.

Sadly the demand for GNHCT to help more orphaned children continues to rise and it is expected that the number of children requiring support through the charity will in the next 2 years be in excess of 10,000 all requiring a safe and loving home in which to live.

Clearly this is an enormous task and as with most things this does have some associated costs in supporting the registered families with extra supplies for which they can help in turn to look after the children in their care.

 

The Current Position

The charity receives no formal funding from either the UK or S.A and relies solely on the kind donations of close supporters of the charity.  As time has gone on the charity has progressed and achieved so much.  With the demand being so high on activities of the charity and the need of so many people in the settlement costs are continuing to rise without the underlying support of new funding coming in to cover such costs. 

It is believed that developing interest amongst children and young people in schools across the country could be a proactive and successful way to target fundraising activities and secure future funding. 

The hope is that GNHCT will develop a small team of volunteer fundraisers from across the country that will be able to work together in encouraging the support and awareness of GNHCT within schools across the UK.

 

The Future

The GNHCT are working hard to develop contacts across the country who would be prepared to give up a bit of time each week to support the kids for kids initiative.  This is a big project that could really make a substantial difference to the charity and indeed the children and families that we serve.
